Why fire doors matter
A fire door only works if every part works.
Fire doors hold back fire and smoke, protect escape routes and keep compartments intact. A missing seal, a gap over 4mm or a closer that fails to latch can undo that protection.
Thornton Fire inspects, repairs and installs fire doors with a clear record of every door — its location, rating, condition and required action — so you can evidence compliance.

Fire door FAQs
Common questions.
How often should fire doors be inspected?
Under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, responsible persons in multi-occupied residential buildings over 11 metres must check communal fire doors at least every three months and use best endeavours to check flat entrance doors at least annually. Other buildings should follow their fire risk assessment.
What does a fire door survey check?
We inspect the leaf, frame, gaps, intumescent and smoke seals, hinges, closers, ironmongery, glazing, signage and certification labelling, then test self-closing and record every door with photographs and a pass, fail or remedial action.
Can a failed fire door be repaired rather than replaced?
Often, yes. Gaps, seals, closers and ironmongery can usually be corrected within the door's certification. Where the leaf or frame cannot meet its rating, we recommend a certified replacement doorset.
What is the difference between FD30 and FD60?
FD30 doors are tested to resist fire for 30 minutes and FD60 for 60 minutes. The required rating depends on the door's location and the building's fire strategy.
